Automation that keeps working
The difference between a script and a dependable automation is what happens when something unexpected arrives. A column moves, an API returns a 500, a file is half-written when the job starts. I build these to validate their inputs, fail loudly rather than silently corrupting data, and tell you when they need attention.
Data work that survives contact with reality
Real data is messy: inconsistent encodings, duplicate records that are not exactly duplicates, dates in four formats. I build pipelines that handle that explicitly and log what they rejected and why, so you can trust the output rather than hoping.
Knowing when Python is not the answer
Sometimes the honest recommendation is a scheduled SQL job, a spreadsheet formula, or a change to the upstream system so the problem does not exist. I would rather tell you that than bill for a pipeline you did not need.
Common questions
Can you scrape a website for us?
Usually, yes, and I will build it to be polite — rate limited, identifying itself, respecting robots directives. I will tell you upfront if a target's terms or technical protections make it a bad idea, rather than building something that breaks or creates a legal problem for you.
Where does the automation run?
Typically as a scheduled job on a server I set up, or on infrastructure you already have. I handle deployment, scheduling, logging and alerting so it is not left on someone's laptop.
Can you work with our data scientists?
Yes. A common split is that they define the transformation and modelling, and I build the production pipeline around it so it runs reliably on a schedule.
Do you handle sensitive data?
Where personal data is involved I work to a written data processing agreement and the transfer safeguards UK and EU GDPR require, agreed before the project starts.
